Tachometers are used to measure rotational speed (rms or rpm) of a rotating shaft or rotating body. Two major measurement types are available. In the contact type, the rotary probe physically contacts the rotating body. In the non-contact type, light is emitted from the instrument to a rotating body with a reflective sheet attached and the reflected light is detected.
