RMS stands for "Root Mean Square", and is a method used to calculate the time-varying voltage signals (such as a sinusoidal voltage signal) that we often get in our power outlets. Utilizing several sample values along each cycle in addition to peak values, "True RMS" multimeters use these more complex mathematical formulas to obtain more accurate readings than a standard RMS meter.
